How to Create Immediate Change This Election Day
Don't worry; I'm not gonna shove political propaganda down your throat today. I'm not really that kind of person.
I want to instead present to you an idea that gets a little lost around these times. If you're not an American, or if you just don't watch the news, you may not know that tomorrow is election day. Here's how it goes: We walk into our booths, punch the hole next to the names we think will solve all our problems, or maybe just do a better job at not effing it up as bad as the last guy depending on your viewpoint, then walk out and hope that they'll stay true to their word.We go home and hope that things get done.We wait......and wait......and wait for something to happen that will flip the way we do things on its head so that the world will finally change. It takes a long time for change to happen when you're waiting on someone else to do it for you. What I want to suggest to you today, is to take the power back in your own hands. Not by punching a hole in a ticket, but by doing something in your own community. How can you make your world better today? How can you influence the environment you live in immediately by an action you take right now?As we go into election day tomorrow, I do in fact urge you to vote, but I also urge you to take on this challenge:
This week, take one action that will positively, immediately, and directly influence your community.
It doesn't have to be a grand gesture like donating thousands of dollars or organizing a marathon for charity, but rather think direct and immediate:
Give a meal to a homeless person today.
Volunteer at your child's school for the next fundraiser... or organize it.
That person you know who's struggling? Buy her flowers.
Let's show the world that we won't wait for change. Change can happen today if we choose to act on it now.
I know what you might be thinking: it takes more effort to go out and take action yourself. It might inconvenience your day. It might stress you out a little. But how will you feel afterwards? You know damn well how you'll feel afterwards: amazing!Never have I ever helped out my community and felt worse for it. Taking action to help others is what lifts me up every day. I want you to see just how rewarding it can be for yourself. So who's with me?
Comment below with what you're going to do this week to immediately improve your own community.
Looking forward to hearing how you're changing things in your world this week!Stay strong,Amy
