Don't want to watch the video? No worries. Here's the gist...Today I want to talk to you about comparison. Now I know we talked about this last week, but it's a pret-ty important topic, wouldn't you agree?I mean, most of us do it. A lot of us, for most of the day. Especially when it comes to what our bodies are capable of.Take this hullabaloo over non-photoshopped marketing campaigns. Aerie lingerie is doing it! Their target market is female teens and young adults, and I say FINALLY.It's about time the major sellers start using images of all different shapes and sizes. It's long overdue. But we still have a long way to go. Take the fitness industry for example. We have all these videos and pictures all around the interwebs to compare ourselves to, no matter where we're at in our fitness journey. But you may not realize something while you watch us do our graceful headstand transitions...We fitness and yoga bloggers don't ever show you guys the times we fall. We don't show you the 5th take when we're grunting or swearing because we just don't have the balance that day.But it happens. And since we can't photoshop ourselves doing perfect flying pigeon poses in videos, we just pick the good takes. And I'll admit, it makes us look like we just perform like that all the time.Well I'll be the first to admit I don't. In fact, let me show you. This is what I posted on Instagram...
What I didn't show you was the take before that showed me tumbling over into the wall! (You can see my epic "shoulder stance" in the YouTube video)
Yeah, it hurt a little. What I'm getting at is that none of us have it down 100% all the time. Even the best fitness and yoga professionals out there. That's why we pick the best takes.
And that's exactly what I want you to start doing today: focus on your best takes.
No, I don't mean post your entire life to Instagram! What I mean is that you can focus on where you're making progress, instead of where you're "lacking." Just because you can't do a full 3 rounds of the latest HIIT workout without stopping doesn't mean you're not worthy of some back-patting!Give yourself a break and realize that any form of progress, big or small, is worthy of being honored. So commit yourself to focusing on your best takes today and every day. You don't need photoshop or fancy edits to realize your true strength and beauty.Stay strong, guys,Amy
