Move: Energize Yourself Toward Change This Summer!

Can you feel it?

The sun’s waking up earlier and hittin’ the horizon later.

Everyone’s smiling less hesitantly, as if they’ve been holding their breath the whole winter and just realized it now.

The heavy jackets are starting to move to the back of the closet, and brighter, softer, skimpier pieces are finding their way out of hiding.

People are outside. Walking. Running. Moving.

I bet you think I’m going to make this a fitness post…

…well, it could be construed that way, but this one can be applied to more than just exercise.

The end of spring, and those beginning days of summer bring with them the energizing force of positive change.

We start feeling motivated, optimistic, and exhilarated by the extra daylight.

So how are you going to take advantage of this one chance you get?

You will never again get this new beginning of summer of 2012 at whatever age you are.  If it passes you by, it will be gone forever.

How old are you now?  You will never be this young again.

How are you feeling today?  What can you DO to feel better than you do?  What actions can you take today to get you in a better place, emotionally, physically, or career-wise?

What do you feel passionate about?  How can you include more of that feeling in your everyday life starting today?

Use that power from the sun, that energizing, invigorating light to fuel your actions.  Start today.

Wait a sec there, Amy.  This sounds awesome, but I have no idea what actions to take!

Ok, blog post.  I hear you.  How about this:

Do SOMEthing.

Anything.

Make a call.

Write a page.

Run for 10 minutes.

Put down that donut.

Tell her you think she’s cute.

Stick up for yourself.

Sign up for that class.

Reach out to that person.

Start thinking differently.

Thank someone.

Take a risk.

Be ok with not being “right.”

Show them what you’re made of.

Be unconventional.

Breathe.

Let it go. You know what I’m talking about.

Whatever that action is that will get you closer to where you want to be, take it.

Don’t get paralyzed by all the possibilities: Take ONE of them.

That’s all you need to do.  Take one action today.  Then take one tomorrow.

Just don’t stop moving.

…unless you’re stopping to take in the sun on your face, smell the pretty flowers, or just to be thankful for life.

You can feel this moment.

You can change your life in this moment.

…if you choose to.

More on this in my upcoming book release!  Exciting stuff, this changing-your-life thing. ;)

I love this Amy! With kids it’s hard not to notice summer approaching. Even with homeschooling, each day’s work completed brings them one step closer to “summer vacation.” It’s impossible not to catch their contagious enthusiasm for sunshine and warm weather. To quote Brynach, “I feel like I have so much more energy when the sun is out and it’s warm!” How true for all of us!
For me, this winter and spring has been about baby steps. I am a great planner and love to have a routine, but I too often get caught up in the details of day to day. When that happens, I find it difficult to get back on track. While I haven’t ditched my long term goals, I’ve been focusing on my short-term goals and have found that it’s been easier to stick with it. What I have noticed, is that by keeping up with my mental goals, my physical ones are falling into place, and vice versa. I know, this is not news for most people, but for my thick head, it’s taken almost 43 years to figure out.
This summer I plan to continue to stick to my goals, work in the garden, spend lazy days at the beach with my boys, and enjoy the beautiful weather.

So glad it spoke to you, Christine!

I think focusing on short-term goals is a perfect way to be! That way, you don’t get overwhelmed, and recognize the little victories that every day brings.

I’m with you for enjoying the beautiful weather. It’s bikini time! ;)

Hi Amy! I love this. It’s exactly what I needed to read today. As I’m just beginning to branch out of private practice and open myself up to the online world, my head is swimming with ALL of the things I need to do: update my blog site, develop my online reputation, make new contacts, WRITE! It can be overwhelming. But you’re right, I just need to take it one step at a time; I just need to be doing SOMETHING. Thanks!

You are doing so much! The fact that you are accomplishing even one task a day can be invigorating! Track what you have accomplished along with your to-do list. This way, you’ll keep sight of everything you ARE doing, rather than letting all the things that still need to get done weigh you down!

Oh, and have some effing fun! ;) You live at the beach; make use of it! I know I’m going to this year!

Really happy to have you and your positive energy here on Strong Inside Out!

  3. Beautifully put. The important thing is not to wait for perfection (the ideal job, the right partner, whatever) but to commit to living here and now. The best way to create the future you want is to start looking towards it in the present. And it’s never too late to be what you want to be!
